Ali Imron is the Farm Manager at Begawan, a Bali-based foundation that pioneers and models solutions to local issues in education, farming, and conservation, where he leads the foundation’s efforts in holistic nature-based agriculture and permaculture. Ali has worked for more than 15 years empowering farmers and championing regenerative agriculture practices in Indonesia and beyond. He’s worked as a consultant for the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Food and Agricultural Organization, and World Food Programme, designing projects for the Indonesian Resilience Food System in East Nusa Tenggara. Ali’s expertise has been sought on numerous projects related to farming and sustainability, including the Rural Development Programme Phase 3, an agricultural partnership between the European Union and East Timor, and on fair trade agreements between Germany and France on industrial crop coffee. Ali studied Zoology and Animal Biology in South Sumatra, and is also active as a conservationist and biologist, taking part in wildlife rescue projects, and collaborating closely with the Indonesian government to conserve species such as Sumatran tigers, Sumatran elephants, and orangutans.
