Hans Christian is chef and co-owner of August Jakarta. After winning the American Express One To Watch Award last year, August has broken into the 2024 Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list landing at No. 46. The restaurant offers a unique culinary experience with a DNA firmly connected to modern techniques while championing Indonesian spices and flavours. This menu invites patrons to immerse themselves in the stories behind the dishes. Chef Hans draws from his travels, childhood memories, and fruitful relationships with suppliers to create his dishes. Hans studied culinary arts first at Taylor’s University Malaysia, then at Johnson & Wales University (JWU) in Rhode Island. During his time in the United States, he refined his skills at various restaurants, including Yono’s Restaurant in Albany, New York, and the one Michelin-starred Next. Upon returning to Indonesia, Hans joined Fairmont Hotel Jakarta as Chef de Cuisine, leading the team at VIEW.
